Australian ATM Strategic Plan

Benefits Achievable

Airlines

Flex Tracks allow airlines to obtain benefits from the prevailing winds using a track published daily by Airservices Australia for all operators. In trials, Flex Tracks have demonstrated the ability to provide significant returns to airline in the Australian environment including a greater profit margin for the flight resulting in:

  • Reduced fuel usage
  • Reduced flight time

Air Traffic Control

Air Traffic Control (ATC) input to the design of the Flex Tracks enables a design to be utilised with existing ATC system tools and standards. ATC input ensures the integrity of the air route system as a whole. This assurance will be supplied by a central authority (Trackmaster) resulting in:

  • Enhanced safety via segregated track systems & uni directional tracks

By allowing more tracks via an organised track structure (OTS), better traffic flows can also be achieved and obvious benefits provided. An OTS is predicated on the daily generation of Flex Tracks arranged in a manner than enhances ATC separation assurance while simultaneously allowing airlines to obtain benefits from forecast wind conditions that cannot be obtained using the fixed route structure. AUSOTS is the OTS component within the Australian flight information region.

Environment

Flex Tracks have the ability to significantly reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere.

Public

Flex Tracks assist airline operators to arrive on time or ahead of schedule.
